PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) are found in the environment as complex mixtures. They are mainly found in road surfaces, but also in other types of materials made of tar or bitumen.
They are carcinogenic to humans and can be assimilated by the digestive, respiratory or dermal route. There are threshold limit values for the exposure and recovery of materials containing PAHs.
